Waterway signs and navigation installations

Use this form to apply for permission to put up, remove or change waterway signs and navigation installations. Waterway signs are warning, prohibition and information signs. Navigation installations are, for example, lighthouse lights, sea marks, lanterns and radar beacons. You can apply for several measures in the same application.

Before you start

• You do not need to log in.
• The form is only available in Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk). With English selected, you can read the introduction, but you must switch to Norwegian in the language menu to fill in the form. Below, each field is given with its Norwegian label, followed by an English translation.
• You need a power of attorney if you apply on behalf of someone else. You upload it in the form.
• You need a power of attorney if someone else is responsible for maintaining the measure.
• You must be able to assess what putting up, removing, changing or moving the sign or navigation installation will mean for traffic at sea.
• Have the position of each measure ready, preferably as coordinates, and the direction the sign or installation will face.
• Do not submit sensitive information or documents exempt from public disclosure here. Use eDialog instead.

What we ask for

All fields must be filled in, except those marked optional (valgfritt) in the form.

1. Kontaktinformasjon (Contact information)

First, you fill in information about the applicant (søker), meaning the person or company submitting the application.

• Fullt navn (Full name, required): The name of the contact person.
• E-post (Email, required): We send the receipt, with a copy of the application, to this address.
• Telefon (Phone, required): A Norwegian eight-digit number, or a foreign number starting with its country code, for example +46.
• Org. nr. (Organisation number, optional): The nine-digit organisation number, if you apply for a company. Navn/foretaksnavn (Name/company name) is filled in automatically from the organisation number.
• Land, Adresse, Postnummer and Poststed (Country, address, postcode and town, required): For a Norwegian address, the town is filled in automatically from the postcode. If you choose a country other than Norway, you enter the town yourself and the postcode is optional.

• Søker du på vegne av noen andre? (Are you applying on behalf of someone else?, required): If you answer yes (Ja), you must also fill in information about the owner of the measure (tiltakshaver), who is responsible for it:

  • Full name, email, phone, organisation number and address, with the same rules as for the applicant.
  • Last opp fullmakt (Upload power of attorney, required if you apply on behalf of someone else): At least one file showing that you are authorised to apply on behalf of the owner. PDF, JPEG or PNG, up to 10 MB per file.

2. Tiltak (Measures)

Under Legg til tiltak (Add measure), you add one or more measures. You must add at least one. Each measure is filled in in a separate window, in four steps. You can edit, duplicate and remove measures afterwards.

Endring (Change)

• Type tiltak (Type of measure, required): Waterway sign (Farvannskilt) or navigation installation (Navigasjonsinnretning).
• Type endring (Type of change, required): Putting up (Oppføring), change (Endring) or removal (Fjerning).

Tiltak (Measure): waterway sign

• Skiltstørrelse og lesbar avstand (Sign size and reading distance, required): Canals and narrow waters (LS 0), up to 200 metres (LS 1), from 200 to 500 metres (MS) or over 500 metres (SS).
• Hvilket tiltak har du behov for å skilte? (What do you need to sign?, required): Submarine cable or overhead line with or without lethal voltage, bridge, low bridge (under 3 metres), speed limit, water pipe/submarine pipeline or other (Annet). The form shows an example of the sign.
• Vertikal klaring (meter), Sikker vertikal klaring (meter), Fartsgrense (knop), Horisontal klaring (meter) or VHF-kanal (Vertical clearance, safe vertical clearance, speed limit in knots, horizontal clearance or VHF channel, marked optional): Some signs need a value to be shown on the sign. Which field you get depends on the sign. The field starts at 0 and cannot be negative.

If you choose Annet (Other), you must describe the sign in more detail:

• Beskriv tiltak (Describe the measure, required).
• Hovedskilt (Main sign, required): Choose the sign from the list, for example other danger, speed limit, anchoring prohibited or lateral marking.
• Skal skiltet ha et underskilt? (Should the sign have a supplementary sign?, required): For the main signs «Annen fare» and «Annen fare (gul)» (Other danger), a supplementary sign is mandatory, and the question is not shown.
• Velg underskilt (Choose supplementary sign, required if the sign has one): Date, area of effect, description, time, distance in metres or distance in nautical miles.
• Tekst i underskilt (Text on the supplementary sign, required if the sign has one, except for area of effect): The text to be shown, for example «1. mai - 30. sep», «08-17» or «0 - 800 m».
• Virkeområde til venstre (meter) and Virkeområde til høyre (meter) (Area of effect to the left and right, in metres, required if you chose area of effect): Both must be greater than 0.
• Skal skiltet kombineres med andre skilt? (Should the sign be combined with other signs?, required): The field is marked optional, but you must answer. If you answer yes, you fill in a secondary sign with the same questions as above: description, main sign and supplementary sign.

Tiltak (Measure): navigation installation

• Velg type navigasjonsinnretning (Choose type of navigation installation, required): Sector light, navigation aid, lantern, radar beacon or other (Annen).
• Beskriv navigasjonsinnretningen (Describe the navigation installation, required if you chose other, otherwise optional): Up to 300 characters.

Stedsangivelse (Location)

• Kommune (Municipality, required): The map zooms to the municipality you choose.
• Stedsnavn (Place name, required).
• Posisjon (Position, required): Enter latitude and longitude (WGS 84) in decimal form, or place the measure on the map. You must also give the direction the measure will face, in degrees from 0 to 360.

Dokumentasjon (Documentation)

• Dokumentasjon av tiltaket (Documentation of the measure, optional): For example maps, photos or drawings. PDF, JPEG or PNG, up to 10 MB per file.

About the application as a whole

Once the measures are added, you answer the following for the application as a whole:

• Sikkerhet og ferdsel (Safety and traffic, required): Describe the effect of the measure or measures on safety and traffic at sea.
• Er det noe annet vi bør vite om? (Is there anything else we should know?, optional).
• Andre relevante dokumenter (Other relevant documents, optional): For example a map section showing where a cable will run. PDF, JPEG or PNG, up to 10 MB per file.

3. Se gjennom (Review)

You check your information before submitting. After submitting, you receive a receipt with a copy of the application at the email address you gave for the applicant.
