Use this form to report ice conditions in Norwegian waters that affect shipping traffic and navigability. When an ice report has been processed, it is shown in the Norwegian Coastal Administration's overview of ice reports.
Before you start
- You must log in with your email address. When you press Start application on the information page, a one-time code is sent to your email, and after logging in you go straight to the form.
- The form is available in Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk) and English.
- You can report ice conditions between 1 December and 31 March.
- If there is a risk of acute harm to persons or infrastructure, immediately contact the local police or fire service.
- Do not submit sensitive information or documents exempt from public disclosure here. Use eDialog instead.
- By submitting, you accept the terms of use. Read more about navigational warnings.
Ice conditions are described with ice codes from the Baltic Sea Ice Code. It helps to know roughly how much ice there is, how thick it is, what it looks like and what it means for shipping.
What we ask for
All fields must be filled in, except those marked optional in the form.
The form is a single page. You can report several observations in one submission with Add new observation. A new observation gets the same ice codes as the previous one, but you must choose an area or point again. Each area can only be used in one observation per submission.
The form remembers the values you last filled in on the same device and fills them in again next time. Check and update them before you submit. The time is always reset to today, and the image is not remembered.
Observed ice conditions
For each observation:
- Image of the ice condition (optional): One image in JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB. If the image has a location, the area or point on the map is selected automatically, unless you have already chosen one. Mobile phones often remove the location from uploaded images.
- Time (required): The date you observed the ice conditions. The date cannot be in the future.
- Area code (required unless you choose a custom point): Select one of the Norwegian Coastal Administration's predefined areas from the list, or click the area on the map. If you click outside all the areas, you choose a custom point instead, and then no area code is needed.
- Quantity and distribution - AB (required): How much ice there is, from ice-free and open water to fast ice.
- Thickness - SB (required): How thick the ice is, from new ice under 5 cm to medium first-year ice.
- Appearance - TB (required): What kind of ice it is, for example ice floes of different sizes, rafted ice or slush.
- Sailing conditions - KB (required): What the ice means for shipping, from unobstructed navigation to navigation being closed. For all the ice codes you can choose "/" if it is impossible to report.
- Comment (optional): Anything else you want to tell us about the ice conditions.
You submit with Submit ice report.
